We are always looking for volunteers! Here are a few ways in which you can help us support the grieving children, teens and adults directly through support group facilitation and mentor-ship or indirectly though office assistance, fundraising and other administrative ways. Every volunteer and every role is vital to our mission of providing no-cost grief support services in our community.
Group facilitators actively participate as active listeners, discussion leaders and support persons in our bi-weekly bereavement support groups. There is no formal counseling or therapy as part of these groups. To become a facilitator, an individual will interview with our program director, attend facilitator training and attend additional in-services as presented. Group facilitation experience is not necessary, as all volunteers will participate in an initial training program and shadow experienced facilitators before being assigned to a group. Group facilitation can also be used as an intern experience for those in bachelor’s or master’s level social work or counselor training programs.
Volunteers for this creative event at Michael’s Place will provide support and expertise for grieving individuals, through artistic and creative expression. We are looking for volunteers who are skilled in sewing to help individuals and families create items such as bears, pillows, and other materials that honor their loved ones memory. Volunteers that have a heart for grieving individuals and want to be a part of the experience, while assisting the families and the staff are welcome, too!
Robin’s Nest Volunteers/Mentors
Volunteers will assist Robin’s Nest Coordinator to participate with youth in monthly “Best Day” activities while allowing the youth to experience positive, caring adult interaction. Past opportunities have included, skiing, snowboarding, paddle boarding, fishing and much more! Volunteer opportunities are also available to people interested in hosting an event. Volunteers needed!
Michael’s Place is continually in need of assistance with general office tasks such as computer data entry, updating files and records, preparing mailings, organizing program materials, soliciting meal donations, etc.
Special Event, Fundraising, and Committee Opportunities
Ambassadors, special event and fundraising volunteers for Michael’s Place are those who believe in our mission and are willing to effectively advocate for us in their own network of family, friends, co-workers, church or civic organizations.
Ambassadors are willing to spend approximately 12 to 15 hours annually introducing 10 to 15 guests to Michael’s Place through regularly scheduled or group-specific Tours of Hope. Special event volunteers help plan, organize and assist at special events throughout the year. Fundraising volunteers are needed throughout the year and may have some experience with grant writing, research, or donor solicitation. Meals and More!
As meals are provided twice a month for families attending Michael’s Place support group, we need community organizations, churches, restaurants or individuals who are willing to provide a meal to feed 30-50 people one or more Monday nights during the course of a year.
