Healing HEARTS Walk Begins!

Please join us on the Great Lawn of the beautiful Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City, Michigan, as we walk together to raise suicide awareness and funds to support those affected by suicide. Suicide IS a national epidemic. Northern Michigan’s suicide rates are double the state average. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for our youth, ages 10-34, and the fourth leading cause of death for all age groups combined.

Michael’s Place is pleased to host Northern Michigan’s first Healing HEARTS Walk: Supporting Those Affected by Suicide. This walk is unique in our community. It is the only walk to raise suicide awareness in which 100% of the proceeds will stay in our Northern Michigan community. This outreach effort is led by the Healing HEARTS Committee, Michael’s Place, and Ron and Janeen Wardie, Walk Coordinators. Funds raised will support Northern Michigan community organizations dedicated to providing suicide prevention, intervention, and aftercare services.

The Healing HEARTS Walk will connect all who have been affected by suicide including experience of loss to suicide, attempted suicide, or mental health issues, and will provide a safe space as we stand united on our journey of healing.

About Healing HEARTS:
Hope, Education, Awareness; Reaching Together for Support

The lives of Janeen and Ron Wardie were forever changed on September 29, 2015, when they lost their son, Zechariah, to suicide. Their hearts were shattered, never to be whole again. Zech did not want to die; he just wanted his pain to end. Janeen and Ron have found strength and healing by sharing their story of loss and by being Zech’s voice to bring hope and healing to those affected by suicide and/or mental illness. Healing HEARTS is a Northern Michigan outreach effort started by a committee of families affected by suicide and Michael’s Place, with 100% of proceeds raised to fund local programs to support families, schools, and businesses affected by suicide.

About Michael’s Place:
